Parents -
Today
We are ON for practice today at our scheduled time. Please note, you will be getting a separate email to sign-off on Covid status for each practice. I believe an email is forthcoming from the league on this topic.
First Practice Update
Great first practice! Masks: consider the disposable masks, which seem to work a little better with the mouthpieces and fitting under the helmets. It took a little time getting us fully active on the field....which brings me to the next point, please try to get to practice on time. We are only on for 1 hour, so we will start promptly, and I'd like everyone to join. From time to time, I will stay after for 10 or 15 minutes, for anyone that want's to throw around, shoot, ask questions, etc.
We worked on dusting off the sticks (ensuring they worked in some cases) and we worked ground balls. Ground balls are a huge part of lacrosse, and the ball will be on the ground A LOT, so being great at ground balls will be a big advantage. We also introduced the concept of position defense (not swinging the stick like a wild man), which is something we'll continue to work on all season long!
Soap Box
As a coach and parent, I completely understand there are conflicts with other sports and activities. Lacrosse is an awesome sport, and one that I hope all your kids will enjoy for many years to come. Please encourage and prioritize your child's participation in lacrosse so he can get the most of his season, which is fairly short in comparison to some other sports that children play year-round. I realized this is easier said than done and kids have their own preferences, but I wanted to share a few thoughts.
Homework!
Please remind your child to come to practice with a Team Name in mind. We'll spend a few minutes at the end of practice selecting that most important of symbols.
Finally, if any parent would like to help coach when we get into a pinch (and Glen or I have a conflict) please let us know. Tim (our third coach) is also selflessly committed to coaching other lacrosse team, so we might need to call upon someone else to help. Thank you!
Regards,
Coaches Jason and Glenn
