Get a jump start on the Season!

Indoor space has been reserved at Sherwood Ultrasports for the months of January, February, March and into early April for all East Bay Lacrosse registered players! Located at 1314 Fall River Avenue in Seekonk, MA behind FantasyLand, the former fitness facility has been transformed into four fantastic turf fields.

Players will get a head start on their skills during these weekly sessions. A rotating schedule will get all children in grades 3 through 8 onto the fields a few times before the season is in full swing! Coaches will also use this time to assess the players interested in our Girl’s RIYLL Competitive teams (grades 5/6 and 7/8 more info below) or the East Bay Boys Travel Team (grades 5/6 and 7/8 more info below).

Sherwood indoor space starts next week.

RIYLL Girl’s Competitive Program
EBBCLA girls will participate in the RIYLL Competitive Program this season. The program offers a higher level of play for girls in grade 5/6 and 7/8. Registration has been very strong for the competitive team offering. If you are looking to challenge yourself , build your lacrosse skills and have the desire to take your game to the next level, it is worth your effort to tryout. All of EBBCLA Girls competitive games will be Saturday mornings and will not conflict with the BMS Saturday game schedule. Practices will be held twice a weekday at 5 pm, days still to be determined.

Beyond the higher level of competition within the RI youth schedule, EBBCLA is very excited to have three very experienced coaches to bring their knowledge of the women’s game to the girls.

The Coaches:
Meg Miller along with Jeff Popham will coach the girl’s 7th & 8th grade team--
Meg will continue in her role as EBBCLA’s Director of Girls coaching this season but will also be the head coach the Girls 7 & 8th team. Meg is a former Brown University assistant for the past five seasons. Prior to coaching at Brown, Meg was a four year starter for the Duke University Blue Devils. She is a two-time All-South Region selection, Meg was also a two-time Second Team All-American . Meg earned All-ACC honors as a senior, and was named to the All-ACC Tournament Team in 2003 and 2004. She helped to lead the Blue Devils to the NCAA Tournament for four straight years. A nominee for the women's lacrosse Tewaarton Trophy in 2003 and 2004, Meg was a Preseason All-American in both 2003 and 2004 and the ACC co-Rookie of the Year in 2001.

Jeff could be called the Godfather of youth lacrosse in RI. His efforts to increase both girls and boys involvement in the sport are legendary. We are truly fortunate to have him part of the 7&8th grade program.   Jeff is the founder and Director of Ocean State Lacrosse and also served as President of the Rhode Island Lacrosse Association (RILAX) from 2000-2003 , during that time managed a 350% increase in the number of youth playing lacrosse. He also initiated and co-directed the first four annual RILAX Ocean State Lacrosse Classics (2003-2006) and the first two annual RILAX Awards Banquets (2004-2005). Since 1998, he has served as a Director and Coach in the East Bay Youth Lacrosse organizations. For the past eight summers, he has coached U-13, U-15, and high school All-Star Travel teams and worked at numerous clinics and camps. In 2005, he founded the East Bay Indoor Lacrosse League, which provides off-season training and playing opportunities for the region’s youth and high school players. In 2006, he founded the Ocean State Lacrosse Club to field competitive travel teams for high school players interested in playing in college recruiting tournaments. Jeff played midfield for Washington College (1978-79).

Mel Bride will coach the girl’s 5th & 6th grade team—
Mel has been involved with EBBCLA since 2005. Mel’s enthusiasm is infectious; she strives to help her girls grow as players, teammates and ambassadors of sportsmanship. Prior to living in RI, Mel assisted the varsity girl’s lacrosse coach at Winnacunnet High School in Hampton NH in 2003 and 2004.  From 1989 to 2001 Mel was the varsity head coach for both lacrosse and field hockey at St. Andrew’s School in Delaware where her lacrosse team won three state titles.  In her playing days, Mel played both field hockey and lacrosse for Colby College where she earned all-state honors in lacrosse and was a Division III Regional All American in field hockey.

EBLAX Boy’s Teams
East Bay Lacrosse is taking the game on the road!

Like last year, EBLAX will be fielding one competitive team for the 3/4th grade boys that will be playing other programs in the RIYLL (Rhode Island Youth Lacrosse League). For the 5/6th and 7/8th grade boys, EBLAX will be fielding recreation and competitive travel teams for each grade group. Based on the number of eligible players, one team(s) will play in the RIYLL and the other travel team will play select teams in MA and CT.

If you are looking to challenge yourself, build your lacrosse skills and have the desire to take your game to the next level, it is worth your effort to tryout. Grades 5/6 are from 5:00-6:00pm and Grades 7/8 are from 6:00-7:00pm.  Arrive at least 15 minutes early to register.

EBLAX will also be choosing players from the 5/6th and 7/8th grade travel teams and forming one team from each grade group to play in a number of post-season lacrosse jamborees/tournaments, such as the Camel Jam in New London, CT and the NESLL/Bulldog Classic in Smithfield, RI. More to follow….

Players will be selected for the travel team or recreation play based on their experience level and skills. All players may attend these sessions regardless of skill level or program they wish to play for.
